Memorial Phoenix Project Founded
In the wake of World War II, the University of Michigan War Memorial Committee approves a resolution to construct a war memorial center to remember fallen soldiers and explore the scientific and moral implications of atomic energy. The memorial was funded by private contributions and developed into the world's first nuclear science and engineering university program.
