Beta Beta Chapter member Conni Goldsmith Crittenden is an educator and volunteer who has received many accolades for her creative work and dedication to her students and Alpha Phi.

Conni’s passion for learning and service developed early. She entered Michigan State University in 1969, where she took classes in math, science, and fine arts, ultimately receiving an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in fisheries and wildlife. Conni was initiated into Beta Beta Chapter in 1971, the beginning of began her lifelong connection to Alpha Phi.

For over 40 years, Conni taught fourth and fifth grade at Williamston Elementary School in Williamston, Michigan, where her creative and innovative teaching methods earned acclaim. She also oversaw Kid’s College, a summer science program for fourth and fifth graders at Michigan State University. As a winner of the 1995 Christa McAuliffe Fellowship, Conni received $41,500, which she used to create an integrated math, sciences, and arts laboratory for elementary students. She promoted hands-on learning experiences, using drama and creative movement to demonstrate science and math concepts. For her work, Conni won the Presidential Award for Elementary School Science in 1998.

Conni has an equally dedicated and decorated record of service to Alpha Phi. For more than 20 years, she was the adviser for Beta Beta Chapter, for which she received the Outstanding Chapter Adviser Award in 1994. She also served as the chair of the Panhellenic Advisory Committee. Alpha Phi honored her with the Michaelanean Award for notable volunteerism in 1984 and the Ursa Major Award in 2000.
