North-Western Christian University Founded
Butler University is founded by Ovid Butler under the name North-Western Christian University. At the date of its opening, 20 students are enrolled under the instruction of two faculty members. The school is founded as institution for the education of school teachers and ministers, especially those committed to the abolition of slavery, and does not restrict admission on the basis of gender, race, or religion.
