Initiated at the University of Michigan in 1917, Ruth Abbott Jones served in a number of capacities for Alpha Phi, including as the delegate to the 1922 Convention from the Detroit Alumnae Chapter just two years after graduation.
She later was traveling secretary before being chosen as the international president at the 1928 Convention, the second Theta Chapter alumna to hold the position of president after Margaret Mason Whitney. Jones served as president until 1930.
She was also involved at the University of Michigan, where she participated on the board of governors of the Betsy Barbour Dormitory.
After her passing, the Ruth Jones Memorial Scholarship was established at the University of Michigan in her memory, awarded to students based on financial need and academic achievement.
